If you are drawn to the arts, can visualize form, and enjoy tactile learning, the School of Architecture and Planning is right for you.  This program is designed for students from all different backgrounds.  You will be taught how to research ideas, study human needs, analyze physical building sites, conceptualize designs, and communicate three-dimensional building forms through manual and digital diagrams, sketches, drawings, and models.  We believe architects have an opportunity to serve the common good with the buildings they design and a responsibility to make the places people inhabit safe, just, sustainable, and beautiful.

The School of Architecture and Planning offers a 2-year accelerated program for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a 3-year program option for students with a Bachelor’s degree outside of Architecture. We also offer an M.S. Net Zero Design degree for an additional 18 credits, which can be added to either program. The Net-Zero program is recognized by the US Department of Energy (solid foundation for 0 energy design practices).

The D.C. Advantage means you are located in the nation’s capital, serving as our history classroom and design laboratory. You will also have the opportunity for in-depth study if you choose to complete one of four concentrations: Sacred Space/Cultural Studies, Technology and Media in Architecture and Interiors, Urban Practice, and Classical Architecture and Urbanism.
