Students who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree and have already received an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree from Catholic University or another institution can apply for an accelerated, two-year program of study.

Second degree nursing students have specific application and prerequisite course requirements, so please read this page carefully. Please note that students can only begin this program in the fall semester; spring admission is not available.

All applicants are reviewed by faculty in the School of Nursing, and are informed of their decision via regular mail sent from the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Second Degree Nursing Application Requirements

  • A completed Second Degree Application
  • Statement of intent
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from ALL previous colleges attended
  • Official test scores from the HESI Admissions Assessment Exam

Important Dates

The School of Nursing only accepts applications for the fall semester; spring admission is not available. Students must have all prerequisite classes completed by August 1.

  • May 15 – Application deadline for the fall semester
  • June 15 – Deadline to submit the enrollment deposit
    • The deposit may also be paid upon successful completion of prerequisite coursework.

Second degree nursing students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and well before the May 15 deadline. The School of Nursing does cease reviewing applicants once it reaches its capacity for incoming students each year; this usually occurs around May 1. Due to this, we highly recommend students apply between September and April prior to the fall semester in which they wish to begin.

Prerequisite Credits for Second Degree Nursing Applicants

  • Minimum of 8 semester hours in human anatomy and physiology with a laboratory
  • Minimum of 3 credits in microbiology with a laboratory
  • Minimum of 3 credits in human growth and development
  • Minimum of 4 credits in organic/biochemistry with a laboratory
  • 3 credits of basic statistics
  • 2 credits of human nutrition
  • 6 credits of humanities
  • 6 credits of social sciences
  • A cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 is required for anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and chemistry courses.
