Catholic University's instructional facility in Alexandria is an 18,500-square-foot space on the second floor of the Catholic Charities USA headquarters building at 2050 Ballenger Ave. in the Carlyle neighborhood near Old Town. The location, across the street from a federal courthouse and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, is near the headquarters of the National Science Foundation. The building is a short walk from the Eisenhower Avenue and King Street Metrorail stations. Ample parking is available both in the building garage and on the street.

The Catholic University of America-Alexandria is conveniently located on the second floor of 2050 Ballenger Ave., Alexandria VA 22314, in the Carlyle neighborhood near Alexandria’s Old Town.

Garage parking
Garage parking is located in the basement of our building, operated by Colonial Parking. The garage is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cars may leave after 7 p.m. but may not enter after that time. Cost is $10 per day, or $7 after 5 p.m.

An alternative garage option is the US Patent and Trademark Office’s West Parking Garage at 550 Elizabeth Lane, Alexandria, VA 22314, next door to Catholic University’s building. Day rate is $10. This garage is open 24 hours.

Street parking
All street parking near Catholic University’s building is metered with a two-hour limit. Most nearby meters require payment Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and are free on Sundays and state holidays.

Meter fees can be paid through the Park Mobile app (Zone # 44543) or the parking meter/kiosk on the street.

The city can be energetic in ticketing meter violations.

Rail
Catholic University’s building is a 0.5 mile walk from the King Street-Old Town Metrorail station (Blue and Yellow lines) and a 0.5 mile walk from the Eisenhower Avenue Metrorail station (Yellow line). 

The building also is a 0.5 mile walk from the Virginia Railway Express station on King Street.

Facility

The University's space on the second floor has been renovated to include:

  • seven classrooms of sizes from15 seats to 30;
  • a computer lab;
  • a number of huddle rooms for student team meetings;
  • prep rooms for faculty;
  • offices for staff;
  • a lounge area overlooking Courthouse Square; 
  • a break area and kitchen.

Total occupancy of the floor is estimated at 443. The area is equipped with the University’s standard wifi system. Classrooms have the University’s standard instructional-technology podium and are equipped for remote
instruction.

Hours

Staff will be available to support operations of the facility from approximately 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays. 

Regulatory approval

Both the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the State Council for Higher Education for Virginia, the commonwealth’s education regulatory body, have approved the University's plan to offer programming in Alexandria.
